South China Sea Weather Service
Located in the tropical and subtropical regions, the South China Sea has complicated and changeable weather. Extreme weather events such as typhoons, torrential rain, and severe convections impact the region frequently. With the proposing of the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road Initiative, the South China Sea, enjoying the strategic positioning as a key link of China and ASEAN to jointly build the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road, places new and higher requirements on meteorological services.
In order to better serve the national major strategy and enhance the capabilities of meteorological disaster prevention and mitigation in the Pan-South China Sea Economic Cooperation Circle, Hainan Meteorological Service has adhered to the Silk Road spirit of "peace and cooperation, openness and inclusiveness, mutual learning and mutual benefit" and built the "South China Sea Weather Service" website. The website has officially launched on November 16, 2018. It is a comprehensive meteorological service platform which integrates functions of public meteorological services, observation, forecasting, early warning, and disaster prevention for the Pan-South China Sea region. Relying on the results of the intelligent forecasting development of Hainan Meteorological Service, the website provides gridded forecasts for major cities, tourist attractions, airports, ports, islands and reefs, shipping lanes, fisheries, and more in the Pan-South China Sea region, and achieves a weather service network of the Pan-South China Sea region. From now on, the website will provide high-quality and efficient meteorological services for many fields such as maritime trade, marine economy, maritime security, international tourism, and marine ecological environment protection in the Pan-South China Sea region.
